! Murcia Today - Camposol Community Groups Collaborate In Project With Mazarrón Council To Fix Bin Site

In what could be an initial project, the refurbishment of the recycling and household refuse collection point on Calle Esparraguera in Camposol Sector D is nearing completion. The project is designed to extend the storage area enabling all the glass, cardboard and plastic/cans containers to sit on a concrete plinth with the household refuse bins located on a concrete bay. Importantly, the refurbishment will store the bins off-road on land owned by Mazarrón Council, making it safer and easier for residents to use, and will also make the site easier to clean.

Unfortunately, the Calle Esparraguerra site had become an unruly dumping ground with rubbish and other unwanted articles and rubble encroaching further and further onto the road, with waste also strewn by the side of the bins.

Hopefully, when the new layout and remedial works are completed, residents and contractors will put their waste in the appropriate bins or take larger items to the Ecoparque.

The refurbishment is made possible by the Sector D Community and Gardening Group working with Camposol 2025 to plan and deliver the project. It is an example of the community, volunteers and Mazarrón Council through Councillor for Camposol, Silvana Buxton and the “Bahía de Mazarrón Ingeniería Urbana” (the concern that operates refuse collection and other maintenance in the municipality) coming together to make improvements to Camposol in this case Sector D possible.

Over the past few weeks the site has been cleared and the extended areas set out. Last Wednesday the forming edges were laid, consisting of beams and kerbstones.

On Wednesday July 27 the concrete will be poured to form the plinth and base, and a period of 48 hours is then planned to allow the concrete to fully set (in this heat it may happen more quickly). This means that the bins and pods can be placed back on site on Friday morning.

A further update is planned on the completion of the project. In the meantime, people are being asked to please not tip waste at the site or place items on the concrete as it sets.
